The Litany of St. Basil

High Priestess Laurel (for Laurel)

What my eye has not seen and my ears have not heard
What was never before in my heart or my head
I feel like a child in the leaves of a tree
Trembling in fear of a power more than me

But if I fall I know that god will send angels
Or one, at least one, that is charged with my life
One robed all in white, or a t-shirt at least
A Priestess to answer the prayers of a priest

Four beasts without bodies are here in this place
But no angel in sight, though I know she exists
How do I know? I only have faith
That shines like the sun in the darkness of space

The love which is perfect is for that which is gone
It can never be found but remains sad and forlorn
For a goddess that’s lost to a child that has grown
And needs angels to show the path leading back home

I will command angels to come to my side
To come to my mind and hide deep inside
And burrow their way to my heart over time
To drape me in white and sate me with wine

I won’t eat of the bread of the earth anymore
I will wait for the taste of what heaven’s in store
For what is to come must be better than now
A child stuck in a tree, clutching a bough
