Sex in the womb

A growing carelessness arising
In a sea of salt
White eddies and flowing hair
Legs crossed; with every thrust
Warmth breaking on my chest as I breach the waves
And all around: bumps not quite felt
But aware of
An encroaching silence
Of vision, my new-born mind
Carries your picture in the golden locket
My mother wore
The first faint notes of nostalgia playing along the chain
As you open your heart’s petals to the sun.

I fall with every breath – my stomach swells
Caressed by foam, I live within you
And die without;
Naked, wet and shivering
I write my loss with words that no-one knows
But you will understand.
