Gaming

My mother introduced me to board games when I was about three or four years old, and to card games when I was about seven. I discovered Role Playing Games a few years later and have been playing them ever since.

I started writing games since I was twelve years old, and had my first stuff published in my early twenties. I wrote a bunch of stuff for Steve Jackson Games’ excellent Car Wars game, some of which is reproduced here.

A while back I built an entire online multiplayer game world called Hidden Tradition using Bioware’s remarkable (and still unsurpassed to this day) Neverwinter Nights toolkit. I recently revisited that territory when I wrote the Romeo & Juliet module for the Neverwinter MMO.

Eventually I ended up spending a delightful time lecturing in Computer Games Design at Stroud College in England, which would have been a dream come true if they had only paid me better.

These days I mainly play MechWarrior Online, Elite: Dangerous, Elder Scrolls Online, and Left4Dead 2 when it comes to video games, but I’ve also rediscovered my love for pen & paper gaming thanks mainly to the combination of the excellent Savage Worlds (absolutely the best universal RPG system) and the Fantasy Grounds app for playing over the Internet.
