Converting d100 to SW

d100 Systems include Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, Stormbringer, Basic Role Playing, OpenQuest, Magic World etc. Modules written for these systems are relatively easy to convert on the fly. To convert NPCs and monsters use the following rough guide:

Attributes:

  • STR =  Strength
  • DEX = Agility
  • POW = Spirit
  • INT = Smarts

To get the correct die type for SW, half the Attribute score and round down:

  • <12 = d4
  • 12-15 = d6
  • 16-19 = d8
  • 20+ = d10

The only exception to this rule is use CON + SIZ divided by 4, rounded down, to get the Vigor die.

CHA can be ignored unless it is either very high or very low, in which case apply either the Attractive Edge or the Ugly Hindrance where appropriate.

Skills:

For every full 20% a d100 character has in a skill, count it as one die type:

  • <20% = assume Unskilled
  • 20% – 39% = d4
  • 40% – 59% = d6
  • 60% – 79% = d8
  • 80% – 99% = d10
  • 100%+ = d12

d100 systems tend to have a plethora of skills and skill names, but it’s usually fairly easy to map each one on to an appropriate skill in Savage Worlds, when in doubt you can always add a specific Knowledge skill. Add the percentages for Insight, Listen, Sense, and Search together to get the Notice score. Add Hide and Move Quietly to get Stealth. Add Bargain, Fast Talk, and Oratory together to get Persuade.

Combat skills are much more granular in d100 – the easiest way to deal with them is to to simply take the highest melee skill and convert that to Fighting, and the highest ranged skill and convert that to Shooting. If the character you are converting has several combat skills you may want to consider rounding up the Savage Worlds die type to one higher in your conversion instead of rounding down – that should get you a reasonable ballpark score.

If the character you are converting has spells, just give them the appropriate Arcane Background and the basic Powers that seem most closest to their original spell list – most should be easily compatible.
